Hello, I'm
Claire Donald
During lockdown, a little luxury I've discovered is ...

Open Water Swimming πŸŠπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Some people might not think of this as a luxury, but spending an hour outside, by myself getting better at something I am not actually very good at has been absolute bliss for me. All the things you hear about cold πŸ₯Ά and outdoor swimming being good for your mental health and well being are 100% true! ☺️

My best working patterns look like ...

My best days look like this:

WFH 🏑

I get up around 0700 have a cup of tea and catch up on emails, news and social media β˜•οΈ

I do some exercise (usually a kettlebell workout at home) for about 45 mins πŸ’ͺ🏻

Shower and breakfast, before starting work around 10 ish πŸ₯£

I like to do 1:1's or pair on tasks in the morning, with some time set aside for me to complete work that doesn't require deep thinking πŸ—£

Afternoons / early evening is when I am at my best, so I try to schedule group sessions, collaborative work (including international) and deep work during this period πŸ’»

However, if I am not 'in the zone' when the time comes, I move some of that work until after dinner!🍽

I normally finish work (when I am at home) at about 1930 BST 🏑

WFO 🏒

I get up around 0700 have a cup of tea and catch up on emails, news and social media β˜•οΈ

I catch the 0836 train if I need to be in the office by 1000 or the 0940 (off-peak) if I can leave it a bit later

I try to leave the office no later than 1825 which gets me home just before 2000 - long day ⏰

The things I really miss about working together in the same space are ...

Random interactions, be that in the lift or whilst making a cup of tea with people I don't normally work with β˜•οΈ

I also missing going for breakfast/lunch/dinner/drinks with workmates and having a bit fun together - its just not the same on Zoom! πŸ•

My absolute requirements to do great work are ...

I love pairing and working on a problem with someone else, rather than on my own. I can do this in person or virtually depending on the preference of the other person β‡ˆ

I also have a tendency to procrastinate and thrive on the pressure of a looming deadline to focus my attention 🎯

Beyond work, I’m really passionate about ...

I love cycling (on and off-road) 🚲 open water swimming πŸŠπŸ»β€β™€οΈ and exercising with kettlebells πŸ’ͺ🏻
I enjoy building lego models, especially vehicles πŸš™
I am an avid Tottenham Hotspur supporter and try to make a visit to the stadium and watch a game a few times a season ⚽️
I am a seasoned Old Fashioned and Negroni drinker πŸ₯ƒ

The basics you should know about me are ...

I am the VP of Technology & Product and lead our Technology and Digital Product Teams. I joined MOO in April 2018 and have had various roles during this time.

I am 41 and live in Weybridge, Surrey, UK with my husband Paul, our 16-year-old son William πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦ I am originally from a small coal-mining village in Fife, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I enjoy face to face interaction with other people and you are likely to see me in and around the office a few times a week 🏒 I also enjoy the focus and convenience that being able to work from home brings 🏑

My homeworking situation is ...

I am very privileged to have enough space in my home for a dedicated workspace and a great IT set-up. My husband works from home almost exclusively and my son normally streams video games simultaneously. I think the cats 🐱 might watch Netflix when we work πŸ˜‚

The best way to give me feedback is …

I am very open to receiving constructive feedback and always seeking to improve πŸ€—

The best way to provide me with feedback is to write it down with examples of behaviour and the impact it had, close to the time it happened ✍🏻 Then schedule some time for us to review and talk it through together πŸ—£

This approach gives me some time to absorb what has been said, get over any emotional reaction and talk through feedback in a rational way. It also means the example is fresh in both of our minds

When I'm dealing with stress, I ...

get tension headaches, snap and get short with people πŸ’Š

I can also get cynical and lost in my own thoughts. I need space and time to talk through the things I am feeling with someone I trust. This helps me rationalise (and normalise!) what is running through my head πŸ€”

The best way you can check-in on me is ...

Drop me a Slack message or Whats App πŸ–₯

I do not answer my mobile phone to unknown numbers πŸ“΅ Let me know beforehand if you would like to talk so I can save your number then it wont be a problem next time πŸ“²

Help me to respect the boundaries I'm setting working from home by ...

Not scheduling meetings with me outside of the working hours published in my diary without asking me first

Please also respect my Focus Time and check if it's OK to book over that time (as I sometimes use these slots for home life and complete my work later in the evening/weekend)

The things which prevent me from doing my best are …

Being tired and/or hungry - I can't concentrate and can sometimes get short-fused!
I try not to schedule meetings before 10 for this reason and eat little and often Β
